Humpbacks and Fin Whales feeding frenzy

Another great forecast to go whale watching this Friday, Saturday or Sunday (22-24 Nov). Subject to minimum numbers but great sightings of fins, humpbacks and loads and loads of dolphins in our area over the last couple of days. When you see this type of bird activity it's a great indicator that the waters are teeming with fish and you might spot the whales lunge-feeding.

Humpback and Fin Whales Return

Sightings in the last couple of days confirm that the humpbacks and fin whales are back in the same area where we spotted them last year.  We'll head out tomorrow afternoon at 1pm  (spaces available on the boat - call to book) and we'll keep you posted.  Hopefully the weather will be favourable for the next few weeks.  Certainly tomorrow is looking great with sunshine and wave height of only 1 mtr.

Dive the U260 & Kowloon Bridge on 28/29 Sept

With a great weather forecast ahead of us (high pressure building so very light winds all week) the viz and surface conditions should be excellent for more dives on these two famous wrecks.  Of course you need to be suitably qualified but we do have a few places left.  Book your space now !

The Kowloon Bridge propeller is huge (see the person walking in front of the scaffolding) but unfortunately this part of the wreck has been pushed "underground", the only part visible is the top section of the rudder.  She also carried a spare prop and we believe an attempt was made to lift this when the Kowloon was sinking but got "lost" and has never been seen since.

 

Fastnet Rock

We'll be diving the Fastnet Lighthouse this Friday with a superb forecast of very light winds and great viz.  Some spaces still available (unfortunately Saturday is booked up for the Sub but we'll be doing that again on 28/29 Sept with some availability for those suitably dived up).
The Fastnet Lighthouse is built on the larger of two pinnacles of hard clay shale with veins of quartz rising to a height of 30 m above low water mark, surrounded by deep water, beautiful gullies, walls covered in colourful marine life and plenty of fish too.

 

Diving the U260 - Saturday 7 Sept

The submarine on a low water slack at 36 to 42 mtrs is a fantastic dive, particularly with the great viz and weather conditions that are set to continue.  Book your space(s) by calling 087-7961456 as numbers are limited.

Minke Whales

Subject to suitable weather conditions we will head out to watch for whales, in particular Minkes and Fins.  The latter have already arrived in our area (a little early for the season perhaps) as well as Humpbacks. No guarantees of course as we're talking about wildlife but so far the numbers have been great and sea conditions very favourable.  Call to book or check availability 087-7961456.

Kowloon Bridge
Great forecast now for Sunday 4th August and space on the hardboat to do the low water slack dive in the morning.  Sunshine and light winds plus plenty of big marine wildlife around to enjoy too.  Call to book your space(s) with Rianne 087-7961456.

Our photography workshop trips to the Fastnet on Friday evenings will continue right through August (subject of course to weather and availability).  Last week's beautiful sunset and near-full moon pleased all those on board Wave Chieftain.

Metal Enthusiasts Take Note

We'll be diving the big / famous wrecks off Baltimore this weekend with the Sub and Kowloon on Saturday and the Kowloon and Alondra on Sunday.  Slack times are good and forecast is light winds and sunshine.  Not many spaces left so if you're dived up / suitably qualified then call to secure your space.

Fastnet Photo Tours

Are you an amateur photographer who would like to improve your skills and learn how to use your manual camera better, using Iso and aperture functions to take images in low light - then join us on Friday evenings (during July and August) for an on-board workshop with local and international award winning landscape / seascape photographer Rohan Reilly. Limited spaces on the Wave Chieftain available for sunset trips to the Fastnet - an iconic object to "shoot" both in black & white or colour.

U260 or the Pinnacle
We head out tomorrow morning to dive the Sub but those not wanting deep deep dive, there is the pinnacle which is anything between 20 and 30 mtrs and nice scenic spot close to the Sub.  Second dive will be non-slack dependant.  Call to book your space.

Boat trip to the Fastnet Lighthouse - the tallest, widest and most elegant of all.   Departure from Baltimore harbour this Friday 2pm and travelling via Cape Clear.  We are enjoying great weather and forecast is for that to remain so hopefully sightings of basking sharks, minke whales and dolphins.  Call to book your space.
